Eligibility Criteria

Project Lifesaver is not intended to replace the appropriate care and supervision of your loved ones. It is meant to be an additional tool to enhance safety and provide peace of mind while ensuring that proper care and attention are always given.

Alzheimer’s/Dementia Clients

  1. Confirmation from a medical doctor that the client is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, dementia or another condition that may place them at risk from wandering.
  2. Confirmation that the client does not operate a motor vehicle.
  3. Confirmation that the client has a prior history of wandering.
  4. Confirmation that the client does not have a history of violence or extremely aggressive behaviour.
  5. Confirmation that the client will be accepting of a transmitter being placed on their wrist.
  6. Confirmation that the client is under 24 hour supervised care. If not, what is the maximum amount of time the client is left alone unsupervised i.e. to go on an unaccompanied walk.
  7. Confirmation that the caregiver is committed to logging daily battery checks, monthly battery changes and contacting police immediately if the client goes missing?

If the client is unable to meet all of the above criteria, they are not eligible for a Project Lifesaver transmitter.

Most often, it is the 24-hour supervision criteria that eliminates clients from participating in the Program.

That is to ensure Project Lifesaver truly helps out those in need rather than a convenient way to locate someone who is allowed to travel unrestricted and unaccompanied about the City/County for extended periods of time.

All referrals for Project Lifesaver must come from the police or the family following a significant wandering incident.

Autism and Other Related Conditions Clients
Cases are evaluated for eligibility on a case-by-case basis.
Key requirements include prior history of wandering, level of supervised care and caregiver commitment.

Theora Connect GPS

Cases are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Note that a monthly subscription cost (~$35.00 per month) is required to access the cellular network for GPS functionality. This cost is the responsibility of the caregiver to provide. Windsor-Essex Project Lifesaver will provide the GPS watch free of charge.
